DUNMURRY GOLF CLUB

Junior golf maintains a high priority at Dunmurry Golf Club with regular Tuesday and Sunday competitions, juvenile coaching and participation in interclub competitions. Senior members of the juvenile section compete in Irish Boys and Youth Championships and have obtained representative honours.

Notable past and present members of the section include Damian Mooney (PGA Professional), Andrew Manson, Alan Reid, Jenny Reid, Neil Brennan, Jill McAuley, Glenn McAuley, Noel Herbert, Darren Crowe, Stephen Crowe, Andrew Pigott,

Noel Murray and Patrick McGlone.

Dunmurry reach final of Fred Daly Plate 2008

In the afternoon final of the Fred Daly Plate Noel Murray showed excellent form in winning by two holes. Noel had seven birdies in his round and only overcame a very talented opponent by carding a birdie on the last green. Paddy McGlone lost 3 and 1, Steven Gracey lost 3 and 2 and Neil Gordon was beaten by 7 and 5. A lot rested on the shoulders of Andrew Laughlin who was playing in his last juvenile competition before continuing his studies at Queens University. He led by one hole at the 16th but lost the seventeenth to be all square playing the last. Tree trouble on his drive led to him having a bogey 6, he sportingly conceded his opponents short putt to hand the trophy to Cairndhu.  Thomas Fleming had come from 3 down to lead by one hole when he was called in.

Team Captain Colin Fleming praised the high standard of golf on show from all four teams, it was a tense affair to watch with many matches ebbing and flowing over the course of the round. He said “I am glad to see the future of Dunmurry in safe hands; we have many talented golfers who will go on to represent the Club at a senior level. Indeed Noel Murray and Paddy McGlone are key members of the Belfast and District team which are playing Lurgan in the final.” He wished all his players well for their future golfing and academic careers
