Dunmurry Golf Club completed a very successful season by becoming the fourth winner of the Balmoral Seniors Ulster Cup when they defeated Knock in the final.
Having won the first leg at Dunmurry 5.5-1.5 clinched victory thanks to excellent wins by Pat McKnight winning 6 and 5, and moments later James Keag came from three down after five holes to win on the 16th 3 and 2.
This the fourth running of this popular event for the Over 60’s started by Balmoral Golf Club during their centenary season in 2014 and Dunmurry follow in the footsteps of Edenmore, Mahee Island and Newtownstewart previous winners.
For the Dunmurry Seniors it was a great end to a very busy season having also reached the final of the Ulster section of JB Carr tournament losing to Strabane in the decider.
The Dunmurry team for the final were – Maurice Ferguson, James Keag, Tommy Patterson, Pat McKnight, Billy McAuley, Roy Donnan, and Vinod Tandon. Team Captain – Dessie Houston Res – Roy McGrath, Ivon O’Rorke, Donal McReyonlds and Frank Garvin.
At the prize giving Michael Casey tournament organiser congratulated both Dunmurry and Knock on reaching the final and stated the event was growing in popularity and he is hopeful that the Ulster branch would take over the running of the event at some stage, however Michael and his committee are already planning for next season so any Club interested in entering should contact Balmoral Golf Club on 02890381514 or email@example.com.
